Three cheers for Mission MLA Randy Hawes for having the guts to publicly oppose the use of cannons in the blueberry fields.

It’s time for Abbotsford’s two MLAs, John van Dongen and Mike de Jong, to come forward and support Mr. Hawes in his endeavour to get them phased out and banned.

As far as Blueberry Council chairman Mr. Gill’s comment, “How do we get farmers to do things correctly and how we can further educate the growers?”, the guidelines have been in effect since 2001 so they can’t pretend they don’t know what to do by now.

If they won’t follow the guidelines, their cannons and other noise makers should be confiscated.
