Ban the Cannons Supporters

My wife and I are very glad to see that an organization has been formed to combat the blueberry cannon. We have lived in the Sumas Prairie all our lives and have raised our family here. We are farmers too (poultry) and have no problem with all the aspects of farming (smells, tractors, irrigation, etc.) that is the life we have chosen to live with our family But the last two years the blueberry cannon has really disrupted our life and we see it only getting worse unless something is done. The people working these fields cannot be called farmers, because a farmer respects his neighbors and does what he or she can to get along with each other I know that's the way we operate as farmers.

We have experienced as many as 22 blasts in one minute this past summer, and to us it is not a part of farming when there are other means of dispersing the birds. As far as having the "right to farm" we say hogwash.

Why are people in Vancouver not allowed to use leaf blowers. Is that not their right as a home owner?

I also drive a truck besides farming and I am not allowed to use my engine brake in certain subdivisions in Abbotsford. Is that not by right as a truck driver? I jeopardize my safety as well as the safety of others for not being able to use it But all that is ok because I respect the feelings of the people that live on that hill that I am going down as I would my neighbor when using my leaf blower.

But my question is.How are certain sectors of our community able to impose these by-laws on others and yet so difficult for us to get our message across on a growing problem which is falling on the "deaf" ears of our politicians

Thank-you
You have our support, H.S and family
