In Response to the Above Letter:
We informed the person inquiring that Abbotsford does not currently have
a noise bylaw for propane cannons, and to the best of our knowledge they have no
plans to set up a new bylaw. Some municipalities have implemented propane cannon
bylaws but have had to follow Ministry guidelines which do nothing to restrict the
all day use of cannons. In effect, municipal guidelines are no help to noise
sufferers.
Cannon noise is "regulated" by the Ministry of Agriculture and their guidelines
permit cannons to fire all day long, ie. from 6:30 AM until 8:00 PM. (Visit
our
Industry Guidelines
web page for more details.)
Our group has encouraged municipalities NOT to adopt these guidelines and make
them bylaws until they are allowed to actually create bylaws of their own that
restrict the day time use of propane cannons.
