Letter to the Editor, Surrey Leader,

I cannot believe in this day and age we are even debating the question of the use of propane cannons by farmers.

It is obvious to any rational human being that these invasive, irritating and in my opinion, useless devices, should be banned from use near any residential, or industrial areas... period.

Farmers and politicians continue to hide behind bylaws and so-called farm acts, using smoke-and-mirror tactics to avoid the wishes of the majority of residents who want this to be resolved. In a democracy it should be simple: the majority rules. Farmers must comply with the majority. If you wish to farm near an area where people do not want to listen to cannons all day, put up nets and don’t hide behind statements like “it costs too much.” Most of the homes I see being built on blueberry farms do not reflect that.
