Letter to the Editor, Surrey Leader,

Mr. Thomson (Leader letters, Aug. 7) is right about growers coming to the valley first.
I’ve lived in Surrey all my life and in Cloverdale 35 of 65 years.
I find it a tough comparison to make between the noise chickens, cows, horses and tractors cutting and baling hay make compared to the thunder of cannons all day long.
Our farms used to grow vegetables, grain and produce milk, this didn’t disrupt peoples lives like the daily sound of war. It seems to me that the blueberry is just a quick and easy crop to profit on. Would somebody please tell me why these fruit plantations can’t budget for netting their fields.
Oh! did I mention that they are so expensive that I can’t afford to buy their blueberries?
