Editor:
With scare cannon season upon us, I would like to remind farmers that new guidelines have been issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Failure to comply will negate the Right to Farm Act as a defense in nuisance claims.

Farmers can now only use cannons “when flocks of birds are present,” so leaving them unattended, set on automatic is no longer permissible. Also, cannons can no longer be used from noon to 3 p.m. and cannot be fired more than once every five minutes.

If you believe a farmer is breaking these rules, you may call Debbie Etsell , the BC Blueberry Council Manager, at 604-864-2117.
